- Q:
What is the default login info of the MM2211?
- A:
The default IP address of MM2211 is 192.168.1.1. The default user name is ‘admin’. The default password is ‘password’. The default mode for MM2211 is route mode. Should the MM2211 be in bridge mode, the default IP address will be 192.168.0.254, more on bridge mode in the next question.
- Q:
What is the difference between route mode and bridge mode?
- A:
The route mode supports of multiple devices connected behind the MM2211. The bridge mode allows only one device to be connected behind the MM2211. Most Metro ISP allows multiple devices connected behind the MM2211. In route mode, the MM2211 will act as the DHCP server to the devices connected behind the MM2211 as well as perform NAT (Network Address Translation). In bridge mode, the PC’s connected behind the MM2211 generally should be set to obtain IP address automatically, and the DHCP request will be forwarded by the MM2211 to the DHCP server in the Metro ISP provider.
- Q:
I’ve forgotten my MetroFlex IP address, what do I do?
- A:
Please perform a factory reset to set your device back to route mode. The address will now be 192.168.1.1
- Q:
How do I reset to factory defaults?
- A:
With the unit powered on, insert a paper clip into the reset button on the back of the device, and hold for 8 seconds.
- Q:
How do I know I am connected to the Metro ISP network?
- A:
Check the Information – System page for Internet Status. If the Internet Status shows connected, you are connected to the Metro ISP network.
Alternatively, the user can check the Wireless Association Device LED (the third LED from the left) for wireless association status. The LED should be green to indicate association.
- Q:
How does MM2211 perform firmware upgrade?
- A:
The MM2211 is pre-configured w/ the IP address of the automatic firmware server hosted by Ruckus Wireless. The MM2211 will periodically check the firmware server for the latest firmware. If the firmware on the device is an older version than what is currently available on the firmware server, the MM2211 will update the firmware automatically (in the background).
The user will need to reboot the device.
- Q:
I cannot connect to the Internet, what should I do?
- A:
- If the user is not able to connect to the Internet, ensure the following:
- Make sure that the configured SSID matches the one provided by your Metro ISP
- Make sure that the security setting matches the one provided by your Metro ISP
- Make sure that your device is located in a place where adequate wireless coverage is available
- Connectivity can generally be improved by moving the MM2211 closer to the metro node, improving line of sight, or put in an elevated location
- Reset the MM2211 to factory defaults, and reconfigure the product
- Q:
How do I obtain a support log from the MM2211?
- A:
The debug dump is useful for the service provider to troubleshoot the MM2211. The debug dump can be obtained by going to the Web Interface and select Maintenance -> Support page. The user can either copy and paste the content in the dialogue box and send the result via email to the service provider support contact, or the user can select the upload button (on the bottom of the page) to save to a file to be sent to the support contact.
- Q:
How do I determine the version of the firmware?
- A:
The firmware version can be obtained on the Information – System page. It is listed as S/W version
- Q:
Can I set static IP address on my MM2211?
- A:
The IP address can be set by going to Configuration – System page, and selecting the appropriate setting under WAN Interface
- Q:
How can the service provider manage the MM2211 in route mode?
- A:
In Route mode, the MM2211 should be set to obtain a WAN IP address automatically from the Metro ISP DHCP server. The obtained IP address can be then reachable by the service provider network management center. There is an option under Configuration -> System for Remote HTTP access. Make sure this is checked.
- Q:
How can the service provider manage the MM2211 in bridge mode?
- A:
In Bridge mode, the MM2211 should be set to obtain WAN IP address automatically from the Metro ISP DHCP server. The home user then should disconnect the PC behind the MM2211.
In Bridge mode, the MM2211 will clone the IP address of the devices behind the MM2211. Therefore, in order for the service provider’s remote management center to manage the MM2211, ensure that MM2211 is using its own MAC address. The home user MUST disconnect the PC behind the MM2211.
- Q:
How can the home user setup the MM2211 in bridge mode?
- A:
In Bridge mode, the default IP address of MM2211 is 192.168.0.254. The home user should first set his PC to the same subnet as 192.168.0.x. After login to the device, set the appropriate SSID (to match that of the service provider’s SSID). Once complete, he home user should then change the IP address of his PC back to DHCP. The home user then can browse the Internet.
However, note that since the home user’s obtained IP address is different than the IP address of the MM2211, the user will not be able to access the Web interface of the MM2211 at the same time as browsing the Internet.
- Q:
Can I connect an external antenna to MM2211?
- A:
MM2211 does not support an external antenna. MM2211 uses a combination of vertical and horizontal antenna arrays to maximize connectivity.
- Q:
Can I connect multiple computers to MM2211 and how?
- A:
In Route mode, the MM2211 can allow multiple PC to connect. Since the MM2211 only has a single Ethernet port, the user should connect a hub or a switch behind the MM2211, and then multiple PC’s to the hub or switch.
- Q:
How do I connect a Wi-Fi router to the MM2211 to provide in-house Wi-Fi coverage?
- A:
- It is recommended that you use the following configuration:
- Configure your existing Wi-Fi router to use DHCP for the Internet, or WAN connection.
- Configure and verify that the MM2211 is working in Bridge Mode.
- Directly connect the MM2211 with the WAN port on the existing Wi-Fi router using an Ethernet cable.
- The existing Wi-Fi router should be able to obtain a DHCP address from your Metro ISP’s network through the MM2211.
- Q:
Can I support wireless to the MM2211 on the WAN interface, and then wireless on the LAN interface?

- Q:
With Dual Zone configured, when the connection to the Metro Wi-Fi AP is restored, will I be able to connect back to my home computers wirelessly?
- A:
Yes. All wireless devices that are part of the LAN wireless LAN will automatically re-associate with the Home Wireless
- Q:
What is the Ethernet port marked ‘WAN’ on the back of the MM2211-ST and MM2211-DZ used for?
- A:
Although marked as a WAN port, it is an Ethernet LAN port to which you may connect an Ethernet device such as your computer, or connect it into your home Ethernet network (this is its use in the MM2211-ST or non-dual zone enabled MM2211).
This port has the same DHCP addressing scheme applied as per the LAN Wireless configuration under the context ‘System -> LAN – AP’ Interface.
This Ethernet port can be used for device configuration and its default IP address is 192.168.1.1.
Note: The ‘WAN Interface’ configuration context applies to the Service Provider wireless interface ‘WAN – Station’ and not to this Ethernet port.
- Q:
When I upgrade from a preivous version of MetroFlex to version 3.5, do I need to reset the unit?
- A:
Yes. You must select Reset to Factory Defaults and reboot. This is accessible from the web configuration section under Reboot.
- Q:
Why do I get ping response from 192.168.1.1 when I ping google.com or some other website?
- A:
This happens when you are connected to the MM2211 unit using a network cable and WAN connection is down. Also note that this happens only when the MM2211 is configured to operate in the “Route” mode. When this happens, access the MM2211 login page using the 192.168.1.1 IP address from your browser and verify wireless settings. If it doesn’t resolve the problem, check with your wireless ISP if there is any connectivity problem in their network.
- Q:
I have good signal strength and all configuration seems to be good, but the internet connection status shows “Disconnected”. Why?
- A:
MM2211-DZ firmware pings Default Gateway to check the internet connection status, once connected to Metro Wi-Fi AP. Some wireless providers disable Ping responses on their default gateways, and, in some network, Ping packets may get dropped. In those cases, MM2211-DZ may think the internet connection is not available, and redirect all internet access to Ruckus Web UI login page. If you are running firmware version less than 3.5.0.1613, please upgrade to 3.5.0.1613 or later firmware and factory reset your 2211. Make sure you write down current configuration, before factory resetting your 2211, so that you can restore your configuration.
- Q:
I can connect to my MM2211 running in router mode from my laptop, but I can’t go online. Why?
- A:
There are two scenarios. One scenario is that you are connecting your 2211 to a Metro AP and you also have a home router connected to the WAN port of the 2211. The other scenario is that you just want to increase the wireless coverage in your home network and you are connecting your 2211 running in router mode wirelessly to your home wireless router. In both scenarios, many wireless APs/Routers including Ruckus MM2211 handout DHCP addresses of the 192.168.1.x network. This creates IP address conflict between these two devices, thus making Internet connection impossible. To avoid such IP address conflict, on the 2211 go to Configure -> System and change the IP address under LAN Interface section to something like 192.168.30.1. After saving the change and rebooting 2211, your computer should receive unique IP address and you should be able to go online.
