PoE device doesn't power up through AP's PoE out port

Summary

PoE out troubleshooting steps

Question

Why my PoE device doesn't power up through the PoE Out port of an AP?

Customer Environment

Ruckus Outdoor AP that supports PoE out

Resolution

7025, 7055, 7762 and 7782 model APs come with PoE out feature. You should be able to connect something like an IP camera OR a 3G smart cell radio to these APs as long as they are PoE capable.

Here are few things to check if the device doesn't power up via the PoE OUT port:
1. Check if the device is 802.3af PoE standards compliant
2. Check if the PoE out feature is enabled through the AP GUI - under Device Configuration (OR through the ZD GUI if the AP is ZD controlled)
3. To be able to power up an external device, AP should be drawing enough power. Check if the AP is connected to a 802.3at (NOT 802.3af) compliant switch. Also check how much power it is drawing from the PoE switch. Otherwise AP should be powered up using the Ruckus 60W PoE injector that can be ordered separately.

If you have exhausted all the above options, you may also want to try replacing the unit with a different unit.
