Question

When does a ZD managed AP download its configuration from the controller?

Customer Environment

ZD (any model), ZD managed APs

Root Cause

Heartbeat loss or reboot or power loss on APs. OR firmware upgrade or manual configuration changes on a ZD, or during initial connection.

Troubleshooting Steps

The following steps are involved when an AP joins the ZD:

1. Discover request and response
2. Join request and response
3. Configuration request and response

Resolution

Every time an AP loses heartbeats due to network issues or reboots or loses power, above steps will be performed in sequence.

In addition if an admin changes configuration on the ZD side on a live network new configuration will be downloaded by all managed ZDs. It is better to avoid configuration changes during peak times. Configuration requests from all APs will put additional load on the ZD.
