Disable accounting interim updates

Summary

Interim updates will be sent at an interval defined under a SSID. This article discusses how to disable them.

Question

How can I disable interim updates to an accounting server?

Customer Environment

ZD managed APs providing wireless service to clients

Root Cause

Customer is not interested in interim updates

Resolution

Accounting server can be defined under Configure --> AAA Servers page. Once a server is defined, admin can enable the accounting option under selected SSIDs.

When a wireless client connects to the network, ZD will send an accounting start packet. As long as the client remains connected, ZD will send interim updates at an interval defined under the SSID. This will continue until the client disconnects from the network which will make the ZD to send an accounting stop packet.

If you are interested only in the start and stop packets, you can disable the interim updates. This can be configured by setting the interval to 0 minutes.
