How to create and activate DHCP Service on Cloud AP?
Customer Environment
Multiple venues deployed across multiple sites Customer does not have control or visibility over the uplink switch or router VLAN information on the uplink infrastructure is unknown or unmanaged Requirement to provide IP addresses to wireless clients directly from the APSymptoms
- Wireless clients associate to the SSID but fail to obtain an IP address
- Clients receive APIPA (169.254.x.x) addresses
- No DHCP Discover/Offer seen from the uplink network
- Customer cannot validate VLAN or DHCP configuration on the upstream device
Resolution
Step 1: Create a DHCP Service Profile
- Log in to RUCKUS One.
- Navigate to Services ? DHCP.
- Click Add DHCP Profile.
-
Select DHCP Configuration Type
- Choose the appropriate DHCP configuration type:
- Simple DHCP: Each AP in this venue is running it’s own DHCP server instance. In general, simple DHCP is configured when APs are at different sites and roaming is not required.
- Multiple AP DHCP: Designated APs in this venue are running the DHCP Server instance. In general, multiple AP DHCP is configured when multiple APs are at the same site and roaming across APs is needed.
- Hierarchical AP DHCP: Designated APs in this venue are running the DHCP Server instance. The DHCP server APs connected to the WAN, the rest of APs get their Private IP address from a local IP Pool with VLAN ID 1 from the DHCP Server AP.
- Choose the appropriate DHCP configuration type:
- Click on Add DHCP Pool to add the required pools
- Configure the required parameters such as:
- VLAN ID
- IP address pool
- Subnet mask
- Default gateway (optional)
- DNS servers (optional)
- Click on Add another pool if multiple VLAN scopes are required, else Click Add
- Configure the required parameters such as:
- Save the DHCP Service Profile: Click Add
Step 2: Assign DHCP Service to a Venue
- Navigate to the Venue where DHCP service is required.
- Select Services >> DHCP >> Click on Manage Local Service
- Enable DHCP Service Set, and select the configured profile from the drop down option
- Click Apply
In Simple AP DHCP, each AP should be able to serve the DHCP for the mentioned VLAN in the profile of their own, and would be NATTed with their own IP while forwarding to uplink
