Why am I not able to stack my ICX8100 devices?

Customer Environment

ICX 8100 switches on firmware prior to 10.0.10h_cd1, or non-X-series models

Symptoms

Stacking commands (stack, stack-unit, stack-port) are missing from CLI
show stack is not recognized or returns no output
Switches connected via SFP+ do not form a stack

Root Cause

Stacking support for ICX8100 devices is not available in earlier software versions. This feature is introduced starting with: Release 10.0.10h_cd1 Additionally, stacking is only supported on ICX8100 X?Series models, including: ICX 8100-C08PF-X ICX 8100-24-X ICX 8100-24P-X ICX 8100-48-X ICX 8100-48P-X

Troubleshooting Steps

Check model: show version — confirm -X suffix. No -X = no stacking (hardware limit).
Check firmware: Must be 10.0.10h_cd1+. If older, upgrade required.
If both are correct: Verify physical connections, matching firmware on all units, and stacking configuration with show stack.

Resolution

Non-X models: Stacking is not available. Replace with X-series if stacking is required.
