Battery seems to drain fast on mobile devices. What can I do to prevent this?
Summary
Article https://support.ruckuswireless.com/answers/000002849 already talks about disabling directed broadcast on ZD managed APs (through qos directed-threshold 0 command). So this article is written to show how to perform the same task on a standalone AP. This change has helped several customers with increasing their battery life.Question
How do I prevent battery draining on mobile devices when connected to Ruckus APs?Customer Environment
Standalone AP environment.Root Cause
Conversion of broadcast and multicast traffic into unicast traffic.Resolution
Ruckus APs by default convert both broadcast and multicast traffic into unicast. Advantages of this process are explained in article # 2849 (URL is provided above). This conversion process can keep handhelds constantly awake to receive the incoming traffic. Understandably this will cause battery drainage. This conversion process can be disabled as outlined in above article for ZD managed APs. If you want to perform the same task on a standalone for the same reason, use the following command:
set directed-thr wlanX 0
Where X is WLAN's ID. Use "get wlanlist" command to find all WLAN details including their IDs.
