How to convert SmartZone managed APs to Standalone AP ?

Customer Environment

SmartZone managed AP to be converted to standalone AP for some specific purpose.

Resolution

Method 1: Manual Conversion via AP Web GUI

  1. Delete/remove the AP from the SZ controller — disconnect it from SZ management.

  2. Factory reset the AP — use the physical reset button or the CLI command set factory.

  3. Connect the AP directly to a laptop via Ethernet cable (through the PoE In port).

  4. Configure your laptop's Ethernet with a manual IP assignment, gateway set to 192.168.0.1.

  5. Log in to the AP web GUI — navigate to http://192.168.0.1 with credentials super / sp-admin.

  6. Go to Maintenance ? Upgrade.

  7. Select Local ? Firmware Option, choose the correct Solo .BL7 image file for your AP model, and click "Perform Upgrade".

  8. The AP will apply the Solo firmware and reboot as a standalone AP.

 

Method 1: Manual Conversion via AP CLI using TFTP or FTP

  1. Factory reset the AP (set factory).

  2. Place the standalone image in the root directory of TFTP or FTP server.

  3. Log into the AP via CLI and execute following commands:

    set rpmkey wsgclient/ignore-fw 1          [This command will ignore firmware from the vSZ/SZ]
    fw set host <tftp/ftp ip addr>                    [To set firmware source as tftp/ftp]
    fw set control <control file name>            [To set control file name. This is the AP image file name]
    fw set proto <tftp/ftp>                              [To set firmware upgrade protocol]
    fw update                                                   [To perform firmware upgrade]
     
  4. Reboot the AP using reboot command to boot it with new image.
