This article describes the symptoms, root cause, and resolution when SSH access to a managed AP fails.Question
Why am I unable to log in to a RUCKUS AP through SSH using my SmartZone administrator credentials?
Customer Environment
RUCKUS SmartZone AP managed by SmartZone SSH access to APSymptoms
- The AP is reachable on the network
- The AP is online in SmartZone
- SSH login to the AP fails and "login incorrect" message is displayed
-
SmartZone administrator credentials do not work for AP SSH access
Root Cause
SmartZone administrator credentials are used to access the SmartZone management interface and are independent of the credentials used for SSH access to managed APs. SSH credentials for managed APs are configured under the Zone to which the AP belongs. Unless explicitly configured with the same username and password, the SmartZone administrator credentials and AP SSH credentials are different.Resolution
- In the SmartZone GUI, navigate to Network > Wireless > Access Points and Identify the Zone managing the AP. Select the "Zone" and click the "Edit" (Pencil) icon to modify the zone configuration.
- On the zone configuration page, locate "AP Admin Logon" section, which displays the AP "Logon ID" and "Password" (Masked).
- If required, update the AP login credentials at the Zone and allow sufficient time for the configuration to synchronize with the AP
- Retry SSH access using the configured credentials.
- If the updated credentials still do not work, there may be an AP-level configuration override. Select the AP and click "Configure".
- Remove the "AP Admin Logon" override from the AP configuration. This will ensure that the AP inherits the login credentials configured at the Zone level.
