Sync to peer and Sync from peer button in Smart-Redundancy

Summary

When enabling smart-redundancy (SR), there needs to be a decision made on sync to peer or sync from peer. Explanation of selection of both of these options is explained.

Question

For SR, how do I determine sync from peer or sync from peer?

Customer Environment

ZD. Smart-Redundancy.

Resolution

Before enabling smart-redundancy, it is recommended to get a backup of the ZD that will become active. Backup the ZD at the ZD GUI, Administer / Backup option.

When one first enables smart redundancy, go to the ZD that you want to be active (usually the ZD with the connected APs and working configuration) and then click on ‘Sync to peer’ option.
If the ZDs have been in smart-redundancy configuration previously and one is re-enabling smart-redundancy, these are the options:
@ previously active ZD, sync to peer:
  • Move configuration from active ZD to standby ZD.
  • Previously active ZD stays active.
@ previously active ZD, sync from peer:
  • Move configuration from standby ZD to active ZD.
  • Previously active ZD stays active.
@ previously standby ZD, sync to peer:
  • Move configuration from standby ZD to active ZD.
  • Previously active ZD stays active.
@ previously standby ZD, sync from peer:
  • Move configuration from active ZD to standby ZD.
  • Previously active ZD stays active.

Important note:
If you want to make a previously active ZD a standby ZD, factory default the ZD before re-enabling smart-redundancy.
