Not able to migrate vSZ from ESXi 6.5 to 6.7 using vMotion

Summary

Explains why migrating vSZ from ESXi 6.5 to ESXi 6.7 using VMware vMotion is not supported and the impact on connected APs.

Question

How can I migrate vSZ from ESXi 6.5 to ESXi 6.7 using vMotion?

Customer Environment

vSZ running on 3.6.2.0.222 loaded in ESXi 6.5

Symptoms

When attempting to migrate vSZ from ESXi 6.5 to ESXi 6.7 using vMotion, all APs connected to the vSZ disconnect during the process.

Root Cause

vMotion is not supported for migrating vSZ between ESXi hosts because the process changes the serial number (S/N) of the vSZ instance. This change causes AP disconnections.

Resolution

Migration of vSZ using vMotion is not supported.
To upgrade ESXi or move vSZ to a new host, use supported backup and restore procedures or deploy a new vSZ instance and migrate configurations accordingly.
