Configuring SoftGRE Tunnels between RG Nets and RUCKUS SmartZone
Summary
This article provides a detailed guide on configuring SoftGRE tunnels between RG Nets rXg and RUCKUS SmartZone. SoftGRE tunnels facilitate efficient traffic management by encapsulating data packets within GRE tunnels.Question
How can I configure SoftGRE tunnels between RGNets rXg and RUCKUS SmartZone?Customer Environment
Users of RG Nets rXg and RUCKUS SmartZone.Resolution
Step 1: Prerequisites
- Ensure that the IP addresses for the SmartZone, AP, and rXg are all in the same subnet
- Verify that the subnet is tied to an IP group and policy called Management
- Confirm that the AP has been discovered by the SmartZone
Step 2: Configure SmartZone
- Log in to the SmartZone GUI.
- Navigate to Services > Tunnels and Ports.
- Select Soft GRE and click Create Enter the required details for the SoftGRE profile.
Step 3: Configure ZONE:
- Navigate to Access Points > Choose the AP zone where you have the VoIP WLANs
- Click edit (pencil icon) > In the ensuing screen scroll down to "AP GRE Tunnel options"
- Click the "Select" button highlighted below > Choose the Soft GRE profile you had created from the "Available profiles" and move it to the "Selected profiles" section and click OK
- Click on on the AP zone page as well.
Step 4: Configure rXg WLAN:
- Go to Network > Wireless > WLANs
- Now Navigate to Wireless LAN > select the Wireless LAN from the Zone where you have done the Soft GRE mapping in the AP zone
- Choose the VoIP WLAN > Click "Configure" button
- Scroll down to "Data Plane options" and enable tunnel WLAN option
- Click on the dropdown for GRE tunnel profile , here you can choose the Soft GRE profile you have already created > save settings
Step 5: rXg WLAN Configuration
Network >> Wireless >> WLANs
The modifications in the WLAN profile are quite simple. On an existing WLAN, you can check the box for tunnel, set the tunnel type to SoftGRE, and then add the IP address for the interface on the rXg that will be the endpoint for the tunnel.
- The Tunnel checkbox instructs access points to build a tunnel to the controller instead of locally bridging the client traffic. In the case of Ruckus, this checkbox will create a SoftGRE tunnel between the APs and the rXg. This capability does require that the Ruckus controller has an appropriate SoftGRE license.
- The GRE Tunnel Type field allows you to select between RuckusGRE and SoftGRE. RuckusGRE is for use with the Ruckus virtual data plane. SoftGRE allows for tunnel creation to the rXg as the endpoint.
- The GRE Tunnel GW IP should be the IP address of the interface on the rXg that the tunnel will connect to.
Step 5: rXg Pseudo Interfaces
Network >> LAN >> Pseudo Interfaces
- Name for the SoftGRE tunnel interface.
- Select an interface type of SoftGRE.
- Select the interface to be used for untagged traffic.
- Select the VLANs that will be allowed over the SoftGRE tunnel.
- Select the policy that contains the APs that will establish a tunnel.
