Setting AP's Ethernet port to operate at 100 or 10 Mbps full duplex
Summary
This article discusses command line options to manually set the AP's Ethernet port at 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps speedQuestion
How do I set the AP's Ethernet port to operate at 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps speed?Customer Environment
Standalone or Controller managed APsResolution
ZoneFlex APs provide a CLI option to define their Ethernet ports to operate at either 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps speeds. In general, all 802.11n and 802.11ac capable APs come with at least one Gbps port (which is also a PoE port). Once they are connected to any of the latest switches they will negotiate the best possible speed and operate at it.There may be scenarios in which it is required to make the AP to operate at a lower speed meaning, either at 100 Mbps or at 10 Mbps. This can also apply to the non-PoE port if you are planning to connect it to a switch/hub or a client device.
To support such scenarios, ZoneFlex APs come with a command line option. Here are the configuration options provided at the command line:
Usage: set ethspeed {<ifname>|<port num>} <connect speed>
-------------------------------------------------------------
** connect speed:
** 100 - Set to fixed 100Mbps full duplex
** 10 - Set to fixed 10Mbps full duplex
** 1 - Auto-negotiation to 100Mbps full duplex
** 0 - Auto-negotiation to max bandwidth capability of
** the interfaces (default)
For example, if you would like to set the non-PoE port(eth1) to operate at 10 Mbps speed, enter the command as below:
rkscli: set ethspeed eth1 10
This setting can be verified either via "get eth" command or via the AP's GUI option. To use the AP's GUI option, you have to login to the AP's web interface by typing its IP address in a browser.
Note: Only Ethernet speed can be changed on Ruckus APs but not Duplex. Ruckus APs auto-negotiate the Duplex with the Switchport they are connected to.
