All R510 disconnecting simultaneously from SZ100 running 3.4.x SW

Summary

All R510 disconnect at the same time from SZ100 randomly. The issue happened originally happened once a week then almost only a daily basis. Sometimes twice a week.

Question

Why do my R510 disconnect all at once and have to reboot to reconnect them back?

Customer Environment

SZ100 with 35+ R510 APs, started with 3.4 but we also saw issue with 3.4.1.

Root Cause

There's a certain IPv6 packet that gets multicasted in the network that triggers the issue. It is a malformed MLDv2 report packet which stops the GMAC.

Troubleshooting Steps

A packet capture mirroring the AP port will catch the packet being broadcast with the issue.  Please work with a support engineer in capturing the issue.

Workaround

Disabling IPv6 is a work around for this issue.  We have a patch available for 3.4.1.0.208 controller.  The fix will be implemented in the 3.4.2 build scheduled to be released in April.

Resolution

Our Engineering team has detected the multicast IPv6 packet.  Engineering is working on a fix for this issue through ER-4685.
