Why we can't move mesh enabled AP to different Zone?
Summary
If you are trying to move the mesh enabled AP from one zone to the other zone, it would reflect with the below error. Unable to move the APs to a different AP zone. Reason: AP xxx cannot be moved because it is mesh-enabled with ssid Mesh-yyy."Question
Why we can't move mesh enabled AP to different Zone?Customer Environment
Info is limited only to vSZ-E/SZ100 Zone 1 has AP's with mesh enabled. Customer would like to move the APs from Zone 1 to Zone 2.Root Cause
Since the Mesh/Root-AP's are updated with the mesh config of the current zone, We would not be able to move those AP's to other zone which has different mesh config.Symptoms
You would get this error when you are trying to move AP from mesh enabled zone to other zone.
"Unable to move the APs to a different AP zone. Reason: AP xxx cannot be moved because it is mesh-enabled with ssid Mesh-yyy."
Workaround
Work around for moving the mesh enabled AP as well as root AP from zone 1 to zone 2 is below:1.) AP was in Zone 1 in Mesh mode ( Not hardwired)
2.) Copied the Mesh SSID credentials of Zone 2, went to the default zone, enabled Mesh with same Mesh SSID credentials of the Zone 2.
3.) Rebooted the mesh AP from zone 1.
4) Deleted the mesh AP from zone 1
5) Mesh AP rebooted and came back in default zone
6) Moved the Mesh AP from the default zone to Zone 2 and it was able to move without any error.
7) AP was rebooted and moved to zone 2, it was up and online.
8) However, make sure, first you move Mesh AP and finally move root AP using the same steps.
9) After moving the AP's to zone 2, disable the mesh on default zone.
10) So, when you are trying to add AP of other zone (Eg: Zone3), disable/enable mesh on the default zone again and enter the credentials of that particular zone (Eg: Zone3)
Note:
When trying to move mesh AP from zone 1 to zone 2, make sure AP is reachable to Mesh SSID of the root AP in zone 2.
This is only applicable to vSZ-E/SZ100, as we cannot enable mesh in vSZ-H staging zone.
Tested with 3.6.2 and 5.0 versions on SZ-100 in lab.
Resolution
We first, suggest resetting the AP and moving it to different zone.If AP count is less and AP are reachable to target zone mesh SSID, try for the work around provided.
