How can I apply VLAN for AP management under SmartZone?Customer Environment
SmartZone controller managed wireless network.Root Cause
Unlike in ZoneDirector there is no GUI option available to apply VLAN ID setting for AP management.Resolution
Unlike in ZoneDirector there is no GUI option available to apply VLAN ID setting for AP management. This can be done in two different ways if this is desired:
1. Via AP CLI:
A. Admin has to login to the AP and run "set ipaddr wan vlan <vlan_id> <ip_addr> <subnet_mask> <gateway>" command.
B. After a reboot all management traffic coming out of this AP will be tagged with VLAN ID specified in the above command.
As you will see, this needs to be done by going into each AP if this is what you want.
Other drawback includes, first you need to connect to an access port, run this command, and move it
to a trunk port (unless that trunk port's native VLAN is 1).
2. By setting switch port's native VLAN to desired VLAN.
A. By default APs management traffic goes out as untagged with ID 1.
Switch port's native VLAN doesn't need to match this.
B. For example, if you set switch port to use native VLAN 200 all the management traffic
from the AP will be tagged with 200 and sent upstream.
This may be the easiest option.
Note: Changing untagged VLAN ID under Port Settings via GUI doesn't have any impact on the AP's management traffic.
