Cloud Licensing
If your device is displaying an error message this is to alert you that some or all of your License(s) have not yet been registered and activated. You must register and activate ALL Licenses and these may include: Right to Use, Number of APs, Tunnel License and Support.
All SmartZone Controllers are provided with default "Licenses" either when the Controller is first shipped or first installed. For specifics in terms of which actual Licenses and the number of Licenses, please refer to the relevant software release notes as this changes between Controllers and software releases. As a generic statement:
The SZ100 product comes pre-shipped with the following default licenses:
- A permanent “Right to Use” (RTU) License.
- Temporary "maximum" Licenses for all features. These are valid for a period of 90 days from when the SZ100 is network configured. For operation beyond 90 days, you must purchase permanent Licenses.
After installation, the vSCG product come configured with the following default licenses:
- A 90 day “Right to Use” License. For operation beyond 90 days, you must purchase a permanent vSCG “Right to Use” License.
- Minimal (less than 5) AP Capacity License. For operation of more APs, you must purchase additional Licenses.
After upgrading the SCG-200 to SZ 3.2:
- A permanent “Right to Use” (RTU) License.
- Temporary "maximum" Licenses for all feature. These are valid for a period of 90 days from when the SCG-200 is upgraded to SZ 3.2. For operation beyond 90 days, you must purchase permanent Licenses.
The actual mechanics to register and activate is through the Ruckus Support Portal (https://support.ruckuswireless.com). You should have received a Purchase Confirmation email either from Ruckus or perhaps forwarded to you from your VAR. This email contains an activation code. Full instructions as to how to activate the License is included in the e-mail but further help can be found here (https://support.ruckuswireless.com/activate). If you have not received this activation code, please contact your VAR first and then escalate to Ruckus Networks by creating an administrative case our Support team HERE.
Once the licenses have been activated in the Ruckus Support Portal, the User has the ability to assign licenses to and back from a Controller or assign them to another Controller. To physically manage the distribution of licenses from the Support Portal to the actual Controller requires one of the following options :
- Connect the Controller directly to the Internet.
- In the event that the Controller is not connected to the Internet, the Customer can download the actual licenses from the Support Portal and manually upload to the specific Controller.
