About Cloud Licensing

If your device is displaying an error message this is to alert you that some or all of your License(s) have not yet been registered and activated. You must register and activate ALL Licenses and these may include: Right to Use, Number of APs, Tunnel License and Support.

The SZ100 product comes pre-shipped with the following default licenses:

  1. A permanent “Right to Use” (RTU) License.
  2. A 1000 temporary AP Capacity License and a separate 1000 temporary Tunnel Capacity License. These are valid for a period of 90 days from when the SZ100 is network configured. For operation beyond 90 days, you must purchase permanent Licenses.

The vSCG product come pre-shipped with the following default licenses:

  1. A 90 day “Right to Use” License. For operation beyond 90 days, you must purchase a permanent vSCG “Right to Use” License.
  2.  A 1 AP Capacity License and a separate 1 Tunnel Capacity License. For operation beyond a single AP and/or a single Tunnel, you must purchase additional Licenses.

The actual mechanics to register and activate is through the Ruckus Support Portal (https://support.ruckuswireless.com). You should have received a Purchase Confirmation email either from Ruckus or perhaps forwarded to you from your VAR. This email contains an activation code. Full instructions as to how to activate the License is included in the e-mail but further help can be found here (https://support.ruckuswireless.com/activate). If you have not received this activation code, please contact your VAR first and then escalate to Ruckus Wireless by creating an administrative case by reaching out to Ruckus Wireless at Contact Support.

Once the licenses have been activated in the Ruckus Support Portal, the User has the ability to assign licenses to and back from a Controller or assign them to another Controller. To physically manage the distribution of licenses from the Support Portal to the actual Controller requires:

  1. Connect the Controller directly to the Internet.
  2. Deploy a Ruckus Local License Server (LLS) within your network. The LLS must be able to communicate with your Controller and it must be connected to the Internet.
  3. In the event that the Controller is not connected to the Internet and you have not deployed an LLS, the Customer can download the actual licenses from the Support Portal and manually upload to the specific Controller.
